Because of the NW wind direction, a "zig-zag" course had to be set to ensure there were plenty of beats. Following the opening "seeding" round, some adjustments to the position of the course on the lake were made but subsequent to this racing continued without interruption until lunch was taken at 12.30pm. The course proved to be very challenging and with the wind gusting up to 24mph, skippers needed to use all their powers of concentration to avoid contact with other boats. Early leaders were Trevor Binks (Eastbourne), Colin Trower (HCMYC), Ken Binks (Eastbourne) and Dave Andrews (HCMYC) with Peter Popham (3 Rivers) and Martin Crysell (Guildford) never far away. Following lunch, the wind eased a little and as the number of completed races grew, it became clear that Trevor Binks was the skipper in pole position. By the end of the day’s racing 9 rounds had been completed and, as expected, in first place with 11 points was Trevor Binks (Eastbourne). Second place went to Martin Crysell (Guildford) with 21 points and third place to Ken Binks (Eastbourne) with 23 points.
