The first race in a series of 4 for the Met
& Southern One Metre Championship took place at Hampton Court on the 20th February
2011.
17 boats came to the line in 2 heats once the skippers briefing was out of the way. The seeding races were won by Martin Crysell from Guildford MYc and John Male from 3 Rivers. John then secured a 2nd place in Race 2 but was unfortunately unable thereafter to match these performances.
The weather throughout the day was overcast and at no time did the sun even threaten to come out. We were however rewarded with a pleasant NE wind of approximately 5mph which didn’t provide particularly exiting racing but was enough to blow away the winter cobwebs and provide the skippers with some practice in playing the wind shifts.

Ken Binks became unbeatable after a lunch time tune up with wins in races 6,7 and 8.
Taking him to a 1st place overall. Dave Andrews was next in line 7 points
behind. A good start to the district Championship. The next event will be hosted by
Reading SC on the 16th April.
