PRACC (2) and Met & Southern RA championship, 11th April 2010 at Hampton Court MYC.

24 enthusiastic RA skippers from 12 clubs competed for the second of the PRACC series of races at Hampton Court. The winner would also take away with them the Met. and Southern RA championship. Briefing took place promptly at 9.45am when PRO Colin Trower ran through the necessary announcements and details of the course. Club Secretary Laurie Bower was delighted to add that the new launching stage, completed only two days beforehand, was ready for use.
The two seeding races were won by Peter Wiles and
Dave Andrews , Peter and Dave having come 1st and 2nd respectively, a repeat of the first
PRACC race at Eastbourne a couple of weeks earlier. The wind came in from the N/E at about
10/14 mph all day and allowed a course to be sailed the full length of the Rick Pond, and
by 10.30 the sun came out as predicted and gave the most pleasant sailing conditions.
Peter
Wiles was clearly the man to watch as he clocked up some good results, and by lunch time
he, along with Ken and Trevor Binks, Dave Andrews, and Dennis Moss, had separated
themselves from the rest of the fleet.
We
did have an brief interruption to the racing after lunch when a formal protest needed to
be sorted before further racing could take place. B fleet racing re commenced at 2.30pm
when we recorded a gust of 19mph, enough to upturn the race team's gazebo. The last fleet
to start was the A fleet at 3.58, nicely won by Dave Andrews. It was a very close
match, Peter Wiles had won the day with 11 points, but followed by Dave Andrews on
12points and Ken Binks on 14 points. It was also pleasing to note Linda Munro's 8th place,
and the fact that she sailed in A fleet all day.
A thoroughly good day was had by all and the first six helms were presented with prizes in the clubhouse by Laurie Bower.
