'A' Open Classic
Series (2)

Held on 24/04/10 this was the first time a freesailing event was held on the Rick
subsequent to its recent restoration works and was in effect the 'Unofficial Opening'.
A good representation of vintage racing
craft made an appearance and with a steady SW breeze picking up during the course of the
day, some excellent informal racing was had, which included spinnaker work.
Owing to a number of significant no shows the none the less most enjoyable day
was spent testing a number of new boats to the season, tuning and of course experiencing
the new lake facilities. It was also good to see visitors who had dropped in to see
the restored pond.
Though not yet fully matured (grass has to grow in recently seeded areas) and the under
water berm and gravel consolidation around some of the water margins has to settle, it was
a delight to start and retrieve boats from the top end now that the access ramps and
starting bank in the lake are in place.
Amongst new boats on the water was Alan Hill's 6m designed and built by himself last
winter, sporting new Bantock sails to Alans sail plan. During a lively lunch
break Alan was in fine form, particularly on design matters and the prominent early
membership of the previous YM6 club.
HCMYC are hosting VMYGs annual A race. Do come for this next meeting which is the Clubs next
freesailing race on 12 June 2010

hear from you. Anthony
