The St George Trophy and M&S District RA Championship 2011
(a report by Peter Townsend) A cold frosty
morning greeted 9 skippers at our Hampton Court lake. A light wind (6 -10mph) from the SE
meant the start and launch area had to be on the north bank of the lake - this was made
more difficult for the skippers because of having to look into bright sunlight. The early
leaders were Colin Trower (HCMYC) and Peter Wiles (Poole RYC). By midday the wind had
shifted to the south, and after lunch a course alteration was made to a zig-zag course
with the windward marks on the opposite south side of the lake. In the afternoon Dave
Andrews (HCMYC) got in the groove and won several races.By 3 o'clock, when racing ended, a
total of 17 races had been sailed, with first place going to Peter Wiles (25 points), Dave
Andrews (33 points) was second and Colin Trower (38 points) came third. Laurie Bower
(Race officer) presented the St George Trophy to Peter Wiles, and gave special thanks to
his race committee of Wendy and Dennis Moss, Geoff Jones, Ron Perkins, Martin Shaw and
Peter Smith for helping to run the event. The full results and photos are shown below
